GenderWise

Our Story

Our Story

Our Journey towards creating safer and more supportive spaces for gender diverse people.

Founders Rachael Feldman and Ania Upstill started GenderWise as what was meant to be a one-time workshop for their grad school cohort. After finding themselves in the position of the “token queers” of the department, and a little exhausted with answering the same well-meaning but draining questions over and over, they decided to create a workshop to answer all those questions in one place. From there, GenderWise was born!

Since debuting GenderWise, we have grown into a company that aims to support not only other educators, but also employers, caregivers, and theatre makers in their journey towards creating safer and more supportive spaces for trans and gender non-conforming people
Utilizing skills and pedagogical practices developed while studying Applied Theatre, we aim to make education around gender diversity accessible, engaging and relatable for all clients, regardless of familiarity with the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

It is our goal that every participant walks away feeling better prepared to support their trans and gender diverse colleagues/students/employees/etc, whether that be through changed policy, personal advocacy, and more.

We aim to make our educational spaces brave spaces, fostering an environment where participants are free to ask the hard questions for the sake of personal growth.

Our Mission

We support companies and individuals in making professional and educational spaces safer and more supportive for the trans and gender diverse community.

“There’s no such thing as neutral education. Education either functions as an instrument to bring about conformity or freedom…The educator has the duty of not being neutral”
